Hebrews 11:4 – Gifts
Notice “gifts” is plural – did Abel offer more than just an animal sacrifice, and all his gifts were accepted because he offered the best? That is what is hinted at in the original text (Gen.4). Or is “gifts” referring to his all the animals he brought? Or if his faith counted as one of his gifts?
Abel succeeded wherein Cain failed. Cain’s failure was in his sacrifice ‑ WRONG TYPE (two ideas): Not a bloody sacrifice; Not his best (vv.3‑4)
I think either of these is possible, although there is more contextual evidence for the latter (also, firstlings, gifts [Heb.11:4]). Of one thing we can be sure: LACK OF FAITH. If we do not give to God WHAT he wants, HOW he wants it, we have a lack of faith.
