1 Chronicles 25-27 – Impressive Nobodies
In my daily reading, the schedule listed 1 Chronicles 26-27. At first glance I noticed name after name after name after name after…well, you get the picture. Honestly, it is a challenge when reading such lists not to let my eyes glaze over, but I’m glad I paid attention. I challenge you – and yes reading it will be a challenge – to read those chapters. As you do, notice some of the personal notations:
- Peullethai – “God had indeed blessed him” (26:5)
- Zechariah – “a counselor with insight” (26:14)
- The Hebronites – “men of outstanding capability” (26:31)
- Jonathan – “a man of understanding” (27:32)
- Hushai – “the king’s friend” (27:33)
Quite an impressive group of “nobodies!” Why call them “nobodies?” Have you ever heard of all of them? Most of them? Any of them? And yet the Holy Spirit took the time to tell us something that apparently impressed God enough to include in His Holy Record.
So take comfort, we might be a nobody in the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12) to some, but to God we are an impressive group of somebodies. Now what would the Holy Spirit say about you and me? Maybe that is the real challenge for us all!
