1 John 2:16-17 – Three or One Types of Temptation?
Have you considered the possibility the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life are not three different types of temptations? Maybe each is present in every temptstion and culminates in what CS Lewis calls the Great Sin, pride, which John mentions last. Contextually, they are all called in 1 John 2.17 the lust, singular, of the world. Each was present in the original temptation, and I believe each was present in each if Jesus’ wilderness temptations.
