1 Timothy 3:1 – Ways to Desire the Eldership
We need elders which is evident and scriptural. My question for you is how does one begin to desire this noble work (1 Timothy 3:1)?
1. Looking forward as a young man, he can decide that this is a way he can serve God and others.
2. Looking backwards as an older man, he can see how God has blessed him with the qualities described and out of gratitude, duty, or loyalty, he serves God and others.
3. Looking currently as an older man, he sees the wisdom of God and need in the congregation.
All three of these show the desire to love God with our hearts, souls, and minds; and our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39). Love is the basis for the desire.
