Becoming Better Readers
This isn’t about answers or interpretations. This is about curiosity, questions, becoming better readers, and paying attention, even to introductions.
1 Timothy 1:1 1) Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and Christ Jesus our hope; 2) unto Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord (ASV).
Introductions are easy to gloss over. But if we paid attention to those two verses we might have questions because not everything is as I expected.
[ ] Paul was “commanded” to be an apostle. Yes he had a choice, but it was not a divine request. How does that apply to us?
[ ] Paul was commanded to be an apostle “by God”? That surprised me since the vision is between Paul and Jesus (Acts 9). There’s a good application if we think about it.
[ ] “God our savior”? Not wrong obviously, just surprising to me because usually that description is applied to Jesus.
[ ] “Christ Jesus” specifically named 3 times in 2 verses is again surprising to me.
[ ] And finally, I find it interesting the descriptions: God – Savior and Father; Jesus – Christ, Hope, Lord.
[ ] There is a lot about relationships and how different ones relate to others.
Again, this “devotional” isn’t about answers, or even getting us through the day. In some ways this wasn’t even interesting compared to most articles. It is about paying attention because if we don’t, we miss out on being surprised and quizzical. Personally, I find that interesting.
