Hebrews 12:2 – From the Cross Back to the Garden
The Garden of Gethsemane is connected to the Garden of Eden, where God walks among men. The cross of Golgotha is also connected to the Garden of Eden. When in sin, mankind recognizes their sinfulness, see their nakedness and live in shame only to be covered by God’s grace. When Jesus becomes the sin offering, the Romans crucify their victims naked, and Jesus dies in shame so we can to be covered by God’s grace. Are we hiding from God like Adam and Eve? Are we trying to cover our own spiritual nakedness by our own efforts like they tried with fig leaves? Are we willing with Jesus to endure the cross and despise the shame so we can go back to the garden and walk with God?
