2 Peter and Jesus #1 – Blindness

Blindness is a familiar theme in the gospel accounts. The word tuphlos, which is found in 2 Peter 1:9, is found only four times outside of the gospels (Acts 13:11; Rom.2:19; 2 Pet.1:9; Rev.3:17), but 46 times in all the NT. That leaves 42 times the word is used either literally, prophetically, spiritually, ethically, or metaphorically in these biographies of Jesus. No doubt this would have a profound impact on those who walked with Him seeing Jesus heal the blind and call the Pharisees blind. Peter takes this familiar concept and applies it in a new direction, to Christians. If we lack the Divine nature as found in the virtues of faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love (2 Peter 1:5-7), then we are blind. We become like those who opposed Jesus, and those who needed Him desperately.
