2 Timothy 2 – Paul’s Encouragement to Reach Out to Others
Paul’s Encouragement to Timothy to Reach Out to Others
Paul uses a phrase to describe evangelism that is “freeing” – “The word of God is not bound” (2 Timothy 2:9). Paul is describing how, even while imprisoned, he still shared the gospel. There are many encouragements given to us to reach out to others about Jesus, surrounding this phrase, “The word of God is not bound”:
1. Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus (2:1). ARE WE?
2. Be sharing already the truth with other believers (2:2). ARE WE?
3. Be single minded and not distracted from our purpose (2:3-7). ARE WE?
4. Be focused on the gospel as an actual historical event (2:8). ARE WE?
5. Be above difficult circumstances that can get in the way (2:9). ARE WE?
Because of these Paul says, “This is why I suffer things for the elect: so that they also may obtain salvation, which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory” (2 Timothy 2:10).
Apparently, even Timothy need to be reminded not to be timid. Let’s not let ourselves bind up the word of God because, “The word of God is not bound”!
