James 4:14 – Life Is A Vapor
James poetically writes and warns, “life is a vapor” (4:14). Every older person laments this truth they have too quickly lived. Children learn this because, while when young it takes forever for Christmas to come, it starts to come faster every year. Evidence of time passing quickly is seen in everyday life.
In 8 short years American music went from Woodstock and Jimi Hendrix to the height of disco! This shows how time deteriorates too! More seriously we see in the sexual revolution of the 60’s and 70’s more diverse deterioration.
• From hetersexual couples “shacking up”, declaring they do not need a piece of paper from the government to validate their love.
• To in a short 50 or so years later, homosexual and lesbian couples, who have no right to marry, claiming the government is discriminatory in not giving them the right.
Although these two wordly group-thinks are exactly the opposite, they are exactly the same. Both rejected the Biblical teaching on marriage.
While life is a vapor, and sin quickly deteriorates, remember how today can have a profound, eternal effect on us and others when we live like Jesus.
