James 4:7 – Another Cowardly Lion
Allow me to mash together two passages from two different writers to make hopefully a poignant point.
The first: HCSB 1 Peter 5:8: “Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.”
The second: HCSB James 4:7: “Therefore, submit to God. But resist the Devil, and he will flee from you.”
Do you remember the scene in the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy first meets the lion? He is roaring, growling, and snarling. Then when he starts after Toto, Dorothy slaps him on the nose. The lion starts to cry, and that’s when we are introduced to “The Cowardly Lion.”
Now when we mash together those two scriptures we are introduced to the Devil, another cowardly lion.
