Deuteronomy 6:5; John 14:15 – Why Loving God Good for God

I find this profound, and I hope you do to. We are told to love God. To love means to seek the best of the other. Therefore if we are commanded to love God, we are commanded to seek the best for God. What can we give God that He needs? Nothing, but we can give to God what He wants. And by giving God what He wants, we are giving God the freedom not to do what He doesn’t want. What’s best for God is not punishing us for our sins, but rewarding us for our faithfulness. That is why loving God pleases Him. He gets to do what He wants, and doesn’t have to do what He hates (Eze.18:23,32; 33:11).
