“Because He Existed Before Me” – That statement of John the Baptist is exquisitely taught in the structure of John 1. Jesus is shown existing: 1) in creation (1:1-13); 2) in the Law of Moses by the language of tabernacling and what the Tabernacle represented in the presence of God (1:14-18); in the Prophets by mentioning Elijah and the Isaiah quote (1:19-28); and finally by His incarnational appearance as the Lamb of God (1:29-51).
