John 20:27 – A Resurrection-less Christianity
A Resurrection-less Christianity.
Satan has excised the centrality of resurrection from Christianity. First, by deceiving people into believing Jesus was only metaphorically resurrected therefore removing Jesus’ physical resurrection (Jn.20.27). Second, by removing resurrection from 1) the act and 2) purpose of baptism through removing immersion as a physical symbol of resurrection (Col.2.12). Third, by removing resurrection from the Lord’s Supper, 1) making it only about Christ’s death and 2) separating communion either from Sunday which is resurrection day or 3) by making it secondary in our worship, 4) and not celebrated every first day of the week (Acts 20.7). Fourth, by removing resurrection from our lives, deceiving people into living in the grave and not in newness of life (Rom.6.4-5). Fifth, by removing resurrection on the final day making people focus on spiritually being in heaven and not being bodily resurrected (1 Cor.15). If there is one doctrine Satan has destroyed within Christianity more than any, it is the doctrine and practice of resurrection.
Resurrection is central to: 1) Incarnation; 2) Salvation; 3) Worship; 4) Daily Living; 5) Eschatology. No wonder Satan wants us deceived.
