Preparing the Way
Mark reminds us that Malachi and Isaiah prophesy preparing Yahweh’s way:
Mark 1:2-3 – As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
A – “Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You,
• B – Who will prepare Your way;
A’ – The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
• B’ – ‘Make ready the way of the Lord,
Make His paths straight.’”
In Mark 1:4, John the Baptist personally fulfills that prophecy about him by preparing Jesus’s way:
A” – John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness
• B” – preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
If we today want to keep preparing the way for Jesus and the Holy Spirit in the lives of sinners, it will include, as Peter shows us, also preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins:
A – Peter said to them,
• B – “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38).
Are we still preparing the way for Jesus?
