Luke 10:25-37; Luke 16:19-31; Matthew 25:31-46 – Nothing is Sinful
In Jesus’ parables there is an amazing focus on how we treat others; or in the sense of omissions, how we fail to treat others. In other words, many of Jesus’ parables are about . . . “nothing!” THE GOOD SAMARITAN (Lk.10:25-37) – What did the priest and the Levite do that was so wrong? They both went over to the victim and kicked him, didn’t they? Then they spat on him and looked to see what the thieves had left behind and stole it, right? No, they passed by on the other side. In other words, they did nothing. THE RICH MAN AND LAZARUS (Lk.16:19-31) – What did the rich man do? He maliciously and deceitfully foreclosed on Lazarus’ house, forcing Lazarus into the streets! Then he stole Lazarus’ medicine for his sores. No, the rich man was not actively cruel. In other words, he did nothing. THE SHEEP AND THE GOATS (Mt.25:31-46) – I will ask a simple question. What did the Goats do that was so sinful? Nothing. Now that you see Jesus’ focus, are you going to do nothing about it?
