Matthew 10:34 – Is Christianity Like Islam?

In “comparing” the violent passages in the Koran with the “violent” passages in the Bible, some will quote Jesus, “Don’t assume that I came to bring peace on the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword” (Mt.10:34 HCSB). Problem is, Jesus is not the one wielding the sword. Jesus’ disciples are not the ones wielding the sword. The gospel, here, is not the sword. The sword is swung by the enemies of the gospel: “and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household (10:36).” The sword is the persecution brought on to the disciples because of the gospel. “Anyone who loses his life because of Me will find it” (10.39).
