Matthew 26:6-13 – Good versus Right
Matthew 26:6-13 – Just because a religious act is good, does not make it right. While in Simon’s house, a woman approached Jesus and anointed Him with an alabaster jar of very expensive fragrant oil. When the disciples saw it, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they ask. “This might have been sold for a great deal and given to the poor.” Obviously, these apostles had learned the lesson Jesus had taught about God’s concern for the poor. As an outsider looking in, we might think Jesus would praise them for their insight. Instead Jesus says, “Why are you bothering this woman?” and “She has done a noble thing.” Jesus also states she had anointed his body for burial and that what she had done will become part of gospel lore. The apostles learned, and we need to learn, that just because a religious act is good, does not make it right.
