A Major Misunderstanding of Revelation and Life
One of the major, possibly the most major, misunderstanding concerning Revelation, is…an incomplete thought. In fact, it is the same incomplete thought found in many’s misunderstanding of the disciple’s life: “the heath and wealth gospel”, “why do bad things happen to good people”, etc.
Revelation teaches we are a kingdom of/and priests:
• “and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father — to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (CSB’17 Revelation 1:6)
This is the same concept as Jesus being being both a lion and a slaughtered lamb:
• “Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Look, the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered so that he is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” Then I saw one like a slaughtered lamb standing in the midst of the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent into all the earth.” (CSB’17 Revelation 5:5-6)
We are priests as is Jesus, except He is High Priest (Hebews). Priests offer sacrifices. Jesus offered Himself. Like Jesus, we are the sacrifice that we offer!
So what is the incomplete thought? The theme of Revelation is not, “Jesus wins. We win”. The theme is “Jesus wins unconventionally. We win unconventionally.” Our unconventional warfare is victory through sacrifice, our own sacrifice, because we are priests who rule with Jesus. Revelation, like the entire NT teaches, our holy offering is the power to destroy the enemy – including destruction through conversion.
