Romans 10:1-13 – Faith in What We Cannot Do
When obedience is considered a work, it is contrary to grace because it seeks to establish its own righteousness. When obedience is considered submission, it is leads to grace, accepting the righteousness that comes from God. Faith is obedience because it is submitting to God to do what we cannot. We cannot live by doing everything; we cannot go up to heaven or come up from death. But we can live because Jesus did what we could not, come down from heaven, come up from the abyss, be resurrected so that we confess and believe in what we cannot do. We cannot put ourselves to shame by submitting to God’s righteousness.
