Genesis 1:14-19 – Chiasm
A – GOD SAID: 14) And God said,
B- Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven to divide the day from the night;
C – PURPOSE AND TIME: and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years:
D – PURPOSE AND PLACE: 15) and let them be for lights in the firmament of heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
E – PLURAL LIGHTS: 16) And God made the two great lights;
F – PURPOSE: the greater light to rule the day,
F’ – PURPOSE: and the lesser light to rule the night:
E’ – PLURAL LIGHTS: he made the stars also.
D’ – PURPOSE AND PLACE: 17) And God set them in the firmament of heaven to give light upon the earth,
C’ – PURPOSE AND TIME: 18) and to rule over the day and over the night,
B’ – and to divide the light from the darkness:
A’ – GOD SAW: and God saw that it was good.
19) And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.
