Genesis 37-43 – TODAY’S PRAYER
TODAY’S PRAYER – The narrative of Joseph is also the personal story of one of his brothers. It was this brother’s callous idea to sell Joseph into slavery (Genesis 37:26-27). This brother’s story includes him visiting a “prostitute” not knowing she was his daughter-in-law, and then wanting to put her to death for getting pregnant by him, ending with him declaring “She is more righteous than I” (Genesis 38:26). This brother then takes personal responsibility for the safety of another younger sibling, Benjamin (Genesis 43:9). This older brother’s story includes his personal growth towards responsibility and care, as he lives a life of repentance, growing from selling a brother to protecting another. He goes on to become the tribe from when Jesus came – Judah. “Oh forgiving God, help me to grow from selfishness to selflessness wherein I am willing to suffer for the safety of others if such is needed. Through Judah’s descendant Jesus I pray, amen.”
