Genesis 37-50 – The Temptations of Dysfunctional Families #6
F2F – The Temptations of Dysfunctional Families #5 – Being betrayed brings with it the temptation of lashing out verbally. This is how Joseph’s brothers spoke to him (37:4). Unknowingly, we betray ourselves when allowing pain from betrayal to determine our decisions. Our reactions toward perpetrators are temptations we have to face and fight against, or else we find ourselves guilty of the same disconnect. How many passages speak of the sins of the tongue (Jms 3)? If we spoke more scriptures maybe we wouldn’t speak so many sins. Joseph does speak harshly to his brothers in the beginning (Gen 42.7). The question is whether Joseph is testing himself or his brothers, or is still in pain himself. Imagine seeing for the first time in around 2 decades someone who betrayed you.
