Genesis 6:4 – Who Are the “Sons of God?”
There is a contextual problem with interpreting the “sons of God” as angels in Genesis 6:4, and that is because of the contextual lineage flow of the previous chapters.
- Chapter 4 – Lineage of Cain – By their descriptions, they were not godly.
- Chapter 5 – Lineage of Seth – It was in the lifetime of Seth (chapter 4) that people began to again call on the name of Yahweh.
- Chapter 6 – Lineage of ? – Considering Genesis had given a lineage of ungodly, and a lineage of godly, it makes contextual sense to interpret “sons of God” with the lineage of those who called on the name of Yahweh; and “daughters of men” with those who did not.
To introduce another “source” does not fit contextually.
