Genesis – Why Was Genesis Written?
Why was Genesis written? I would like to suggest three reasons. First, to satisfy man’s natural curiosity – “Where did I come from?” Second, to put man into perspective – we are created for God – “Why do I exist?” And third, to combat false concepts of creation’s origin – “Who is the true God?”
What questions about mankind are answered in the stories and accounting of Genesis 1-3?
- Esoteric – “Where do we come from?”
- Somber – “Why do we die?”
- Practical – “Why do we have to work?”
- Curious – “Why do we wear clothes?”
- Technical – “Why do our bodies turn to dust?”
- Physical – “Why does giving birth hurt so much?”
- Anthropological – “When did farming begin?”
