TODAY’S PRAYER – Genesis 46
TODAY’S PRAYER – Genesis 46 – Jacob leaves the Promise Land to go to Egypt. This is the same thing Abraham did (Genesis 12). What is similar is a famine. What is different is permission to go. God tells Jacob, “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt” (Genesis 46:3). If Egypt represents that which is evil, then maybe this parallelism might work. Egypt is the world, a place of slavery. Joseph comes from outside and ends us ruling turning that which was a symbol of evil to a symbol of physical salvation. Jesus comes to the world from outside and ends up ruling by taking the cross – a symbol of death and evil – and turns it into a symbol of spiritual salvation. It is apparent that Joseph is a type of Christ. It should be significant that He went to Egypt as a child for his own physical salvation. “Oh God Incarnate! As the shame of the cross was turned into defeat for Satan, turn my fear into the power to conquer by your power. Amen.”
