What Was Eve’s Original Sin?

Eve’s Original Sin?
1 Timothy 2:9-10 (CSB) 9) Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing, with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive apparel, 10) but with good works, as is proper for women who profess to WORSHIP GOD.
This is a most fascinating allusion, as we again delve deeper through definitions to see how this fits the origin story:
· theosébeia – properly, God-fearing (veneration); godly respect, reverence (used only in 1 Tim 2:10). (https://biblehub.com/greek/2317.htm)
If one were to tie the main contributing factor to Eve’s decision to basically call God a liar via her actions, it would not be a stretch to conclude that she lost her godly fear:
· She doubted God’s character that He told the truth about the purpose for keeping them away – “God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God” (Gen.3:5). Did God lie as to WHY he forbade the tree?
· She doubted God’s character that He told the truth as to the consequence for breaking His command – “No! You will not die” (Gen.3:4). Did God lie as to WHAT would be the consequence for disobeying?
· She doubted God’s power to enforce His promise – “No! You will not die” (Gen.3:4). Did God lie as to HOW would or could follow through?
When Eve took the fruit and gave it to her husband, would any say she still “feared” God? Notice, Paul doesn’t use more common words for worship, such as latreía (lit., to serve), or proskuneo (lit., to kiss). Paul chose to use a word that means, “fear of God.” The Ephesian church (where Timothy was laboring in the Lord) didn’t need to repeat the same mistakes as Eve and Adam. Could the loss of the fear of God be the original sin by Eve? Could the loss of the fear of God be the origin of our sins?
· (The context is showing Paul’s instructions concerning the role of men and women in the church is based upon Genesis 1-3.)
