1 Kings 22:34 – Random Integrity
Random Integrity
Random integrity. I support any who uphold random integrity. In fact, I myself try to practice random integrity. The essence of integrity is randomness. True integrity requires it being practiced randomly.
Confused? Good! That means you are thinking! Do you think I am advocating on-again, off-again, righteousness? Exactly the opposite. So what am I thinking?
1 Kings 22:34 – Now a certain man drew his bow at random and struck the king of Israel in a joint of the armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around and take me out of the fight; for I am severely wounded.”
Curiosity caused me to research the word, random. Most every time the Hebrew word is used in the Old Testament, it is translated integrity. Other minority translations are full measure, innocently, blameless, upright. The word itself means, completeness, integrity.
In 1 Kings 22:34, the bowman drew his bow at random, without trying to hit any particular man, without aim so to speak. He had a certain job to do, and he did it as best he could, and as fully as possible.
Shouldn’t that describe our practice of integrity? We shouldn’t choose who to “hit” with our integrity and sincerity. It is random in that we practice it without even thinking, whenever and to whomever. That’s random integrity.
