2 Kings 2:2 – Show Yourself A Man
We are living in an age where men are not men. Instead they are grown up boys at best; or at worst, a hybrid asexual being despising true manhood as archaic. Society encourages such a feminization of men.
Both the “grown up boy” and the “feminized male” are weak. David told Solomon, “I am going the way of all the earth. Be strong, therefore, and show yourself a man (2 Kings 2:2).
Males showing they are men is:
- Positive – It is a goal worth reaching.
- Possible – It is a goal that is reachable.
- Perceivable – I can understand what this goal is
- Provable – Others can see my success or failure
- Purposed – It is not reached accidentally.
Being a real man means being what God designed a man to be in all his relationships – husband, father, friend, Christian. Being a real man is what every man should want to be; what every father should be teaching his sons to be; what every mother should be teaching their daughters to look for; and what every father should be proving their daughters want in a relationship.
Let us rise above our culture’s age of weakness and start acting our spiritual age of manhood. Our wives need us to be real men. Our daughters and sons need us to show ourselves a man. And we need it to, for that is how God created us men to be. And even though our society does not know it, it needs us to be real men too. We are living in an age where men need to be men.
