Jeremiah – Forgiveness is Not Always Good
Forgiveness isn’t always good. Stay with me on this. If we forgive someone who has hurt us, who isn’t good to us, and we forgive because we don’t think we deserve better; then “forgiveness” is unhealthy. Such “forgiveness” is not the kind of forgiveness that God gives because He deserves only our best. So, ask yourself: do I forgive out of weakness, out of a bad self-image, because I do not think I am worthy anything, and in fact believe I deserve to be treated badly? That’s not why God forgives. Therefore, that is not why we should forgive. We learn this from an unexpected source: God does not always forgive! (Jeremiah 7:16; 14:11; 15:1). Forgiveness is always good when it comes from strength. Are we strong enough to forgive?
