Does A Young Earth Contradict Science?
Atheist claims Bible contradicts science
Student – “I see conflict between the Bible and the age of the earth because the Bible teaches the earth is young while science proves it is ancient.”
Answer – “The Bible does not contradict science because the creation story shows that God created everything with age as part of the original creation. In fact, this was a necessity. For example, Adam and Eve created on Day 6 were 1 day old, and yet they were many years old because they were adults. On Day 4 God created the stars as signs which means that even though they were lightyears away in distance, their light could be seen on the very day they were created. So God created the stars, and the light from the stars, with age built in. The same could be said for the animals who were to muliply. Let me ask you a question. How is a diamond formed?
Student – Natural diamonds form deep within the Earth’s mantle under immense heat and pressure, where carbon atoms crystallize into a diamond structure over millions of years.
Answer – Pretend you are a theist. Could God create a diamond within a second? (she shakes her head yes). That means that God created a diamond with age built in. It is the only way that God could create since many of the things created are defined by age.
Student – That is a fair point.
