Does Good Leading Stop Bad Following?
Can a church be troubled when the leaders are serving others instead of themselves? Absolutely!
1) Some people in the congregation can be content on letting the leaders do everything. They want to be served. They want what they want. They want to get instead of getting up and giving.
2) Then there are others who are complaining about the leaders serving. Maybe it is guilt. Maybe it is embarrassment. Maybe again it is about them not giving and therefore they don’t even want to get.
3) Finally, there are those who are ready to turn on the leaders. Strange thing is, they too are wanting to get but not what the leaders are giving. They think they need something else. So they leave.
If this scenario sounds preposterous, if anyone thinks congregational problems begin and end with the leaders’ failings; then read Jesus washing the feet of the apostles in John 13. Are we the apostles (#1); Peter (#2); or even Judas (#3)? Until we ALL love one another, ALL serve one another, ALL allow others to serve us when needed, ALL willing to receive what we don’t think we need, and ALL willing to stick together against the outside attractions…then “I” am not like Jesus but “I” am the problem.
