How To Know We Are Saved or, How Not To Wash Pork Chops
How to Know You Are Saved – Or, How Not to Wash Pork Chops
“When frying pork chops, you first wash them in the washing machine. Then you dry them in the dryer. After that, you fry them, right.”
So…are you interested in what this is all about?
I had the privilege to study with someone who has stage 4 cancer. This kind lady kept using the words “fear” and “doubt” concerning her salvation. So, I asked two questions:
• Are you fearful and doubtful because you don’t know if you have done enough to be saved? Or,
• Are you fearful and doubtful because you don’t know if you have done what is required to be saved?
Those are two entirely different questions! She answered, “Both”.
Let’s deal with the first question.
“Stop fearing and doubting whether you have done enough because no one can. Jesus does for us what we can’t. No one can ever do enough. That’s why we need Jesus.”
She smiled and said that helped.
Now let’s deal with the second question.
“Do you like to cook?”
“Yes, I do.”
“What do you like to cook?”
“Pork chops.”
“When frying pork chops, you first wash them in the washing machine. Then you dry them in the dryer. After that, you fry them, right.”
Giggling, she responded, “No,”
So, I asked, “Why?”
“That’s not what I was taught.” (Thankfully she was taught right and not by me on how to cook!)
I then turned this to the God’s word.
“You learned to cook from being instructed. The Bible is our instruction book or cookbook. We have the instructions right here. Are you afraid to fry pork chops?”
“No”
So, I asked, “Why?”
“Because I know what to do.”
Then I responded, “This is how we take care of your fear and doubt. If Jesus and God’s word tells us what is required to do to be saved, will we know what to do?”
“Yes.”
“If we know what to do to be saved, do we need to have fear and doubt?”
She responded, “No.”
So, I asked her if we just took care of her fear and doubt. She responded with a smile. We haven’t yet read the “instructions” from God’s word, but we know we can trust Jesus.
If you are fearful and doubtful about your salvation, I hope this helps. If I can help further, please let me know. And please pray for this seeker.
