Oh Giver of the Gift,
Have we missed the point of Isaiah’s virgin birth prophecy? The promise is given to an unfaithful Israelite who does not deserve to be rescued. It is given to an idolatrous king who is about to be betrayed by those exactly like him – those whom he thinks are with him, are against him. Your promise of ‘God with us’ is given to someone who, at that moment in time, does not even know how much he needs God with him. Have we missed the point of the virgin birth prophecy for us is to see ourselves as Ahaz needing to be like Isaiah? Through Your Gift we pray, amen.
