Israel’s Wanderings As Grace?
Israel’s Wanderings as Grace?
When Israel rejected God’s gift of Canaan due to the fear of the giants, and unbelief that their God could help them be victorious, God gave them grace.
No, I don’t mean God allowed them entry and victory anyway.
No, I don’t mean God forgave their lack of faith without them repenting.
No, I don’t mean God didn’t punish the unbelievers.
So how did God give Israel grace?
God gave them the gift of time.
After 40 years, the doubting leaders were gone. Through time, God removed the stumbling blocks.
Have you considered someone toxic exiting your life a blessing from God? Some people control our fear and doubt, diminishing what God can do in us. We need time to start relying on God and not them.
After 40 years, God sustained Israel through much suffering. Discipline is hard but a necessary benefit to our well-being, so says Hebrews 12. Even though displaced, God provided food, water, and Israel’s clothes never wore out, including their sandals.
Have you considered the discipline of the Lord and continued love through the suffering God’s grace? This warns against a lack of confidence in God. We need being sustained through bad times to keep us humble during good times.
Maybe we shouldn’t limit God’s grace to the obviously good. Maybe God’s grace is even found in heartaches and struggles, while being kept by God’s providential grace.
Don’t reject God’s grace whatever form it takes.
And of none of.the above could be called grace just remember that 40 years later Israel got what they didn’t deserve – God’s gift of the promise land.
