Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

Moralistic Therapeutic Deism

There is a religious philosophy among some called Moralistic Therapeutic Deism. The last point is “good people go to heaven.” As always, the devil (ironically) is in the details. Jesus said no one is “good” (Mark 10:18). By claiming we are basically good and therefore God will save us is a denial of three essential truths:
1. What the Gospel is: We become saved by works, by us being good enough to go to heaven.
2. How Far Reaching is God’s Love: God’s love is diminished because it is easier to love those who are good, and yet God loved us when we were evil.
3. Who is the Standard: If Jesus is the standard the whole world is condemned. If the world is the standard then Jesus died in vain because the world can make us “good” compared to others.
Our neighbors are not good…and without God neither are we. This is why we need to evangelize others, stay humble ourselves, and continue to submit and praise God. Only God is good.
