New Phones and New Christians
I have a new phone. Many love technology, including my father. I didn’t get that gene. I enjoy learning new things until it makes me feel stupid. Then I don’t feel smart…which smarts (I did get my mother’s humor gene!) All this got me thinking.
Becoming a new Christian means a new way of thinking. In fact that is what repentance means, a change of mind. It’s not always easy. Simon the sorcerer loved power, fame, and money before believing and get baptized (Acts 8). And apparently those were his motivations for wanting to buy the Holy Spirit’s power. Old habits are hard to break. Thankfully Peter helped set him back on the strait and narrow by setting him straight. It couldn’t have been easy for Simon to hear, but he reacted properly.
I’ve been watching YouTube videos to learn my new phone. It is helping with the learning curve. As for new Christians, help yourself by relying on those who have some experience. You’ll go through some spiritual growing pains; just be comforted that everyone does. Don’t get down on yourself by calling yourself stupid and not worth it. Like us all, you just have a lot to re-learn.
