Revelation Outline

I don’t know more about Revelation than I do know. Is it about Jerusalem? Is it about Rome? Often when presented with “either or” I have found “both and” to be more probable. What I do know is Jesus is victorious through suffering, and not through worldly power. So consider this oversimplified “both and” outline:
[ ] 1-5 – Jesus Victorious and His People
[ ] 6-11 – Jerusalem is the Enemy of Jesus and His People
[ ] 12 – Jesus Comes to Save His People Against Satan the Enemy
[ ] 13-20 – Rome is the Enemy of Jesus and His People
[ ] 21-22 – Jesus and His People Victorious
The date is unnecessary because the book is not linear, and continually focuses on what was, what is, and what is yet to come. Because it is not linear, the last two chapters are not saying the church and kingdom only come after Jerusalem and Rome are destroyed. It’s focus is on victory shared between God’speople and Jesus – “We Win”.
One connection this arrangement has that makes it more plausible in my mind is that it follows the pattern throughout the OT. God ou wishes His people and the nations as seen in many places including Amos.
1) Israel/Northern Kingdom/Judah – Jerusalem.
2) Assyria/Babylon/Medo-Persians/Greeks – Rome.
3) Remnant – Church.
The application for us today is God’s people – past, present, future – are always put into tribulations by Satan, who is the real power behind the thrones of histories’ World Powers. Let us focus on the shared victory!
