Romans 11:22 – Dumbing Down
There is a difference between simplifying the word of God and dumbing down God’s word. The term “dumbing down” originated in 1933, as movie-business slang used by screenplay writers, meaning: “to revise so as to appeal to those of little education or intelligence”. When done with God’s word the appeal is not put so condescending. It goes like this: “God is love”. Such is true, however “God is love” as in only love is not true. God’s love for sinful creatures would not mean much if all God is, is love. God is righteous makes God is love have a deeper impact. God’s love, mercy, sternness, righteousness, all work together or else God is not the God revealed in His word. Romans 11:22 – “Therefore, consider God’s kindness and severity: severity toward those who have fallen but God’s kindness toward you–if you remain in His kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.”
