See Take Sin
SEE, TAKE, SIN
Most people think the famous climbing phrase “because it is there” was first uttered by Edmund Hillary when he and Tenzing Norgay conquered Mount Everest in 1953. Not so. “Because it was there” is as old as the question, “Why did you eat the last cookie?” And it has been uttered ever since by those trying to lose weight. How do I know this? I just ate potato chips. I wasn’t thinking of potato chips. But…I ate “because it was there”.
Now this is not just a (failed) attempt at humor or my diet. Notice this pattern:
1. Eve “saw” and “took” and sinned (Genesis 3:6)
2. Achan “saw” and “took” and sinned (Joshua 7:21)
2. David “saw” and “took” and sinned (2 Samuel 11:2,4).
Why did each sin? They saw and took “because it was there”.
That’s why we must “flee temptation” – see then flee! (2 Timothy 2:22-24).
Trouble is we don’t see “temptation”. Therefore we must “know then go!”
Let’s not end there. There is one more verse about seeing, taking, and sin that we must include: The next day he SAW Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who TAKES away the SIN of the world! (John 1:29, NASB 2020)
Notice this quote:
Temptations which accompany the working day will be conquered on the basis of the morning breakthrough to God. Decisions, demanded by work, become easier and simpler where they are made not in the fear of men, but only in the SIGHT of God. He wants to give (opposite of our taking – PDH) us today the power which we need for our work.
Author: Dietrich Bonhoeffer
When we are in eternity with God, it is because we SAW Jesus (Galatians 3:1), who TOOK away our SIN. If you want to SEE Jesus, let’s get together.
