The Gospel According to the Tabernacle
The Gospel According to the Tabernacle
The Bible is one story filled with many stories telling the same stories with different characters and situations. One of these stories is seen in the Tabernacle and “The Gospel According to the Tabernacle”.
Description of the Tabernacle:
OUTER COURT
1. One gate/door
2. Altar of Burnt Offerings
3. Laver
HOLY PLACE
4. Lampstand
5. Table of Showbread
6. Incense
7. Veil
MOST HOLY PLACE
(or Holy of Holies)
8. Ark of the Covenant
As Jesus is foretold in stories, we can see Jesus in the Gospel of the Tabernacle:
OUTER COURT
1. One gate/door – Jesus is the one gate/door (John 10:7).
2. Altar of Burnt Offerings – Jesus is the atonement sacrifice (1 John 2:2).
3. Laver – Jesus is the place of cleansing (1 John 1:7).
HOLY PLACE
4. Lampstand – Jesus is the Light of the world (John 8:12).
5. Table of Showbread – Jesus is the Bread of Life (John 6:35).
6. Incense – Jesus is the Mediator in prayer (1 Timothy 2:5).
7. Veil – Jesus’s body and death tore down the veil (Matthew 27:51).
MOST HOLY PLACE
8. Ark of the Covenant – Jesus is where we meet the Father (John 14:6).
No one should be shocked that Jesus is seen in the Tabernacle.
John 1:14 (CSB) The Word became flesh and dwelt (lit. tabernacled) among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Jesus “tabernacled” with us to become all the furniture within the Tabernacle. This includes Jesus is the Ark of the Covenant or as it is called in Hebrews, “the throne of grace”.
Jesus passes through the heavens, the veil, in His Ascension. There He becomes High Priest. As Priest and King He sits where God met the Mediator Moses – the Ark of the Covenant:
Hebrews 4:14-16 (CSB) Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens — Jesus the Son of God — let us hold fast to our confession.15) For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. 16) Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.
Let’s become part of the story of Jesus living the gospel according to the Tabernacle.
