Three Time Periods
For every book in the Bible, there are at least three “time periods” – The past, the present and the future. The past is the history being recounted, because most if not all the books were written after the events being described. The present answers the questions as to why that book was originally written, to explain how things, names institutions, came to be the way they are at the time of the book’s composition.” This is the etiological character (i.e., Hermann Gunkel) . Then of course there is the future, which describes the people who will be reading the history of the history.
- Why did this happen?
- Why is this written?
- Why is this important to me?
