Why Atheists Need to Believe
“I understand Christians have a need to believe in God.” That is a confession of sort by many atheists, and one I recently heard. That got me thinking….
I could say, “I understand atheists have a need to not believe in God.” Often it is the evil in the world that tempts them to not believe. Sadly, it is the evil of so-called Christians that drives them away.
Here;s the kicker…. Why would evil lead people to not believe in God? That’s because atheists actually believe that if God existed, he would be good, loving, and merciful. There unbelief ironically exposes their need to believe in the God we worship.
Therefore we Christians must be what atheists know God must be. They need us to show them God. This is exactly what Jesus came to do: John 14:8 (CSB) “Lord,” said Philip, “show us the Father, and that’s enough for us.” As the old song says, “Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me.
