We emphasize how “unworthy” (Lk.7:6) we are but forget we are worthy, worth something, valued, to be respected, by God and how we act – walk worthy of the gospel (Eph.4:1; Phil.1:27; Col.1:10; 1 Thess.2:12; 2 Thess.1:5,11). God called you to be what you were not and counts you what you cannot be. Because you […]

Paul’s inspired epistles often begin by describing Jesus and the gospel and end with practical applications. Today we usually go about it backwards. We first tell how to have harmony in a church or family, when people are not spiritually equipped. Instead, first tell them Who Jesus is, what He did, so we can become […]

“Israel’s Christian Arabs” – Yes, that is the description of a group of people living in Israel. Citizens of Israel. Believers in Jesus. Racially Arabic. They are forming a new political group called, “Sons of the New Covenant.” Cannot think of a more eclectic and yet inclusive set of people. Sounds like what a church […]

In reading Ephesians, and specifically 2.11-16 I see re-creation (2.15) in reversing the creation of account. In Genesis man is one (Gn 1), then two (Gn 2), then divided by sin (Gn 3). In Ephesians we have the removal of division by law (2.15) of two groups (2.15) making one man (2.15).

Humans live a non-divine form of “incarnation.” Jesus came to this existence to live as we do, dual beings, flesh and spirit – “God with us.” Just the name Immanuel, “God with us” suggests a partnership in duality. Our spirits are embodied in flesh (the meaning of incarnate); both claiming ownership as “I” as God […]

Yahweh tells wicked Ahaz to ask for a sign from from the depths of Sheol to the heights of heaven (7:11). Later, referring to the same Person who would be that sign, Immanuel, we find a different fulfillment: Ephesians 4:9-10 (HCSB) 9) But what does “He ascended” mean except that He descended to the lower parts […]

I grew up in an atmosphere that focused more on what churches cannot do, than on what a church can do, should be doing, must be busy doing, and actually did. James 1:27 was not preached on except on how not to apply it. Speaking analogously, gardens are never planted by only pulling weeds. Negatively […]
