NASCAR
I’m new to North Carolina, and being a preacher I’m interested in the various religions of my neighbors. I’ve learned there are Baptists, Catholics, more Baptists, Moravians, more Baptists, and a religion I’ve never heard of – NASCAR. Not many people know that NASCAR is an acronym: National Association for Stock Car Auto Religion.
Personally, I think they are the most devoted to their religion.
Think with me.
- Just like a religion, they meet every Sunday. And the real devoted disciples meet during the week too!
- Just like religion, they have communion. Instead of communion being unleavened bread and wine, their communion is unleavened pretzels and beer.
- Just like a religion, their services are very much like many sermons – you go around and around and around the same point over and over and over again until somebody starts waving for you to stop.
- Just like a religion, they have their denominations. For example, some are DaleEarnheardtians. DaleEarnheardtians have nothing to do with those heretics called the JeffGordians. There used to be some RichardPettyites, but they have all but died out.
Unlike Christianity, they don’t have a Holy Trinity, but they do have a “Holy Oval” which many fall down and bow to when they’ve had too much communion.
