10 Hermeneutical Rules for Interpreting a Pandemic

10 Rules of the Hermeneutics of Interpreting a Pandemic (does this sound familiar?)
1. Choose the stats/facts that agree with your preconceived position.
2. Ignore the stats/facts that disagree with your preconceived position.
3. Be unwilling to change your position when new stats/facts become evident because they do not support your preconceived position.
4. Believe any wild, unsubstantiated stories that agree with your preconceived position.
5. Value anecdotal stories and personal experience over objective evidence to support your preconceived position.
6. Castigate the motives of those who disagree with your preconceived position.
7. Consider yourself morally superior to those who disagree with your preconceived position.
8. Spout the party line to support your preconceived position even when it obviously contradicts their and your preconceived position.
9. Congregate only with those who totally agree and expel all those who disagree with your preconceived position.
10. Use the Bible to support your preconceived position even if you don’t use the Bible to guide the rest of your life.
Conclusion:
If you can’t see that the above is true or at least partially valid, then you might be unknowingly guilty of the above.
If you can’t see that all the above also applies to how people “interpret” the Bible, then you might be unknowingly guilty of the above.
The solution for both is hard work to collect all the facts, a willingness to have your mind changed, and being unafraid to stand alone.
