9 False Gospels
False gospels abound today. The Holy Spirit recognized they began almost immediately after the gospel became a reality. If there are false messiahs (Matthew 24:4), false prophets (Matthew 24:11), and false teachers (2 Peter 2:1), there will be false gospels. Here are two warnings (2 Corinthians 11:3-4; Galatians 1:6-10):
Are we better than they, that we can’t be deceived too? Below is a list, briefly described, of 9 types of false gospels preached, practiced, and believed today:
1. Personal – Not about God,; Is Self-help Philosophy.
2. Prosperity – No suffering; Is focused on financials and health.
3. Pragmatic – No offense to any one; Is tolerance of all behaviors.
4. Progressive – No wrath; Is only love
5. Political – Not spiritual; Is Liberation Theology .
6. Performance – Not by faith; Is by being good enough.
7. Physical – Not one gospel for all: Is one gospel for Jews, another for Gentiles.
8. Perfunctory – Not about service; minimal participation.
9. Personality – Not centered on Christ; Is about the cool charismatic preacher.
Open God’s word and see the true gospel of God reconciling the world to Himself through Jesus Christ:
2 Corinthians 5:17-19 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come! Everything is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us.” (CSB)
