Matthew 18:20; 1 Corinthians 5:4; 2 Corinthians 2:10 – Paul Echoes Jesus
Lately I have been fascinated by how many times Paul’s teaching reflects that of Jesus’. Sometimes it is just a peculiar word repeated, a phrase reworked, or an essential doctrinal issue reiterated. For example, in 1 Cor.5:4 in the discipline of a brother, Paul writes, “in the name of our Lord Jesus with my spirit and with the power of our Lord Jesus.” In 2 Cor.2:10, a passage which speaks of the restoration of a offending brother, Paul says “For what I have forgiven – if I have forgiven anything – it is for you in the presence of Christ.” In a similar discourse in Matthew 18, Jesus says, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there among them” (v.20). All such evidence points how immersed was Paul in the teaching of Jesus. That is our challenge too.
