The Wise Men and the King
You know the story. God’s son is born into an oppressive world, including the king trying to kill him. There is a famous scene between the murderous king and wise men. These wise men showed their fealty to their king. They did this by using gifts they had, that others did not. You remember what I am talking about; the scene where the wise men in loyalty to their king use their gift of magic to turn their staffs into serpents?
Ahhh, were you thinking of a different scene with different wise men and different gifts? There are many similarities between the scenes of Pharaoh and the “first-born son” Israel; and Jesus the Only and Unique, Only Begotten, Son of God and King Herod.
I love how the Bible keeps telling the same stories over and over, using different scenes and people. This shows a consistent inspired hand looking forward to the ultimate scene of Jesus. God uses us today too, wherein people can see us and therefore look backward to Jesus…or that we are part of the oppressive world. To which king are we loyal?
