TODAY’S PRAYER – Genesis 40
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker “offended” him. Consequently, they both lost their jobs. Now their punishment was more severe than in today since they were also imprisoned and eventually the baker was put to death. Today, people are threatened with losing their jobs, “outed” on social media ruining their reputation, or more subtlety passive-aggressive behaviors because someone took offense. All these are a form of control. People who are always and easily offended don’t realize they are trying to control people and environments. “Dear God, your second greatest gift is free will. May we use it wisely so as to not unnecessarily offend, and may we not be so easily offended. Through Him who knew the true meaning of “offense” I pray, Amen.
