Inspired and Confident
Inspired and Confident
Attacking whether the Bible is God’s authority revealed is too blunt. So when you hear someone questioning inerrancy or infallibility, and then redefining inspiration, the agenda is to deny the Bible is God’s authority revealed to us in written form.
After building a false foundation (with a trap door!), then it becomes more palatable to describe the Bible as men’s words about God rather than God’s word to all humanity. Picking which parts are really God’s authentic word allows them to shape scripture into their form instead of shaping ourselves into God’s form as revealed in scripture.
The trap is set by misusing the obvious by asking, “Are you saying every translation is inspired and therefore perfect?” None would say all translations are inspired (only the original “autographs” were). By misusing the obvious, they are missing the obvious – God is powerful enough to protect His word despite all the translations. One might even confidently say God’s word was intended by God to be translated! How would I prove this? From God’s word, of course.
“‘Brothers and sisters, it was necessary that the Scripture be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David foretold about Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. For he was one of our number and shared in this ministry.’ Now this man acquired a field with his unrighteous wages. He fell headfirst, his body burst open and his intestines spilled out. This became known to all the residents of Jerusalem, so that in their own language that field is called Hakeldama (that is, Field of Blood). ‘For it is written in the Book of Psalms: Let his dwelling become desolate; let no one live in it; and Let someone else take his position.'” (CSB’17 Acts 1:16-20)
Notice Luke is writing in Greek, quoting Peter, referencing OT Scripture, and David, saying the king’s mouth was used by the Holy Spirit, and then quotes Psalms – but quotes from the LXX which was written in Greek, while David wrote in Hebrew!
And yet, while the LXX was a translation, Peter still considers it the Holy Spirit revealing God’s authority in written form through David.
Have confidence that when you read the Bible, you are reading God’s thoughts, not mistakes. God is greater than any translation to ensure it is still God’s word to all men, women, and children, including you.
